Banks Explain Why Fewer Offer Free Checking

Why the disappearing act on free checking? The banking industry says banks are now losing money because of economic tough times and new laws that limit the fees that banks can charge. Banks, UW-Extension Offer ‘Get Checking’
Posted on January 10th, 2010 No commentsUniversity of Wisconsin-Extension offices and Wisconsin banks are teaming up to help give troubled consumers a second chance at having a checking account, the Wisconsin Rapids Tribune reported. Residents of Adams, Marathon, Waushara, Waupaca and Wood counties can pay $10 to participate in the three-hour Get Checking Program. Upon completion, they receive a certificate they can bring to a sponsoring bank.
