Harris to Close 16 Amcore Branches

Harris Bank says it will close 16 of the Amcore Bank branches the company took over in April, including one in Madison on the Capitol Square. A branch in Waukesha is the only other Wisconsin location affected. The closings will take effect Sept. 17, the Wisconsin State Journal reported.

UW Credit Union Expands in Milwaukee

Two new branches of the University of Wisconsin Credit Union in the Milwaukee area probably won’t be the last. The state’s fifth-largest CU will buy a branch in Waukesha from the Equitable Bank, and in April, it opened a branch across from Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa in a like-new building it bought from Amcore Bank before it failed and was shut down by regulators. Royal Credit Union Buys 11 Anchor Branches

Eau Claire, Wis.-based Royal Credit Union is purchasing 11 AnchorBank offices in Amery, Balsam Lake, Centuria, Menomonie, Milltown, New Richmond, Osceola, River Falls, St. Croix Falls, Somerset and Star Prairie. The offices will open as RCU on June 28, according to WQOW Channel 18.

Harris Gains Foothold With Madison Branches

Five of the 11 Amcore branches that Harris Bank recently acquired are in Madison, giving Harris “the start of a foothold” in the broader Wisconsin market, according to Harris market president Tom Bolger. UW Credit Union to Buy Equitable Branch

UW Credit Union of Madison has signed an agreement to buy the Equitable Bank property at 21215 E. Moreland Blvd. in Waukesha. It will become UW Credit Union’s fourth branch in the Milwaukee area and 18th in Wisconsin, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.

Natl. City Banks Convert to PNC in June

PNC Financial Services Group Inc., which is planning a $50 million expansion in the Milwaukee area over the next several years, will convert its National City Bank branches to the PNC Bank brand name during the weekend of June 11-13, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

Nicolet National Bank’s acquisition of four AnchorBank branches in Brown County, Wis., is a natural evolution for the 10-year-old bank, which wants to increase its retail-banking profile, according to a column in the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

AnchorBank employees in the Madison area will lose their jobs as a result of the struggling bank’s latest cost-cutting move to sell four more of its 73 locations and cut 70 jobs, the Wisconsin State Journal reported.
