Banks Develop Opt-In Overdraft Programs

Last November, the Federal Reserve Board ruled that financial institutions may no longer charge customers fees for overdrafts on one-time debit card purchases and ATM withdrawals unless the customer consents to an overdraft service. Baumgarten Named Bank Mutual President

He succeeds Michael Crowley Jr., who remains as chairman and CEO. Crowley also is chairman, president and CEO of parent company Bank Mutual Corp. Bank Mutual Earnings Down 76%

Bank Mutual posted net income of almost $1.5 million, or 3 cents a share, down from $6.2 million, or 13 cents, in fourth quarter 2008, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
