  • Settlement Reached in Housing Lawsuit

    A tentative settlement has been reached in a long-running dispute in which South Milwaukee attempted to raze an apartment complex that includes affordable housing. The lawsuit, filed by the bank that backed the development and joined by the American Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin, claimed that to raze the complex would constitute racial discrimination. A jury found that razing the property would have a disproportionate effect on minority and disabled residents in violation of the federal Fair Housing Act.
